The first batch of the CBD Transdermal Patch are being released, offering a cannabinoid-based alternative to people around the globe who self-medicate for fibromyalgia, neuropathy, and other chronic pain conditions, Our Natural Shop has announced.
In February 2018, the company hinted on the development of two new medications for pain relief in people with fibromyalgia, neuropathy, diabetic nerve pain, back strains, and other pain-related conditions. These pain relievers correspond to transdermal adhesive patches that deliver a certain dose of medication into the bloodstream by absorption through the patient’s skin. The first Our Natural Shop Transdermal Patch contains high-potency cannabinoid (CBD) extract. CBD has all the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties without any psychoactive effects, and research has demonstrated that it can be an effective treatment for inflammatory pain. Some studies have even demonstrated that CBD might outperform traditional pain medication in some cases. “The Our Natural Shop CBD adhesive transdermal patch is placed on the skin to deliver a specific dose of cannabinoid medications into the bloodstream,” Heather Fraley, chief executive officer of Our Natural Shop, said in a interview . “Self-medicating patients have been reporting promoted healing effects to specific injured areas of the body experiencing chronic pain. Heather said the transdermal patch has an advantage over other types of medication delivery, including oral, topical, intravenous, and intramuscular, because it can “provide a controlled release of the medication into the patient, usually through a porous membrane covering a reservoir of medication or body heat that melts thin layers of high potency cannabinoid formulations embedded in the adhesive; the medication slowly enters the bloodstream at the chronic pain spot and then penetrates the central nervous system, delivering the pain relief reported by self-medicating patients.

Discovered in the 20th Century, the endocannabinoid system is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids that are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in the mammalian brain and body. CBD is one of the primary cannabinoids found in hemp. These cannabinoid receptors play a pivotal role in physiological processes such as mood, memory and pain. There are two cannabinoid receptors - CB1 and CB2 that are located on cells throughout the body. What are CB1 and CB2 Receptors? CB1 receptors are primarily located on nerve cells in the brain, spinal cord and central nervous system. They are very abundant in the cerebellum, basal ganglia, and hippocampus. The CB1 receptors have been found to play a role in memory processing, motor regulation, pain sensation, mood, and sleep. CB2 receptors are primarily found on cells in the immune system and its associated structures. When activated, they stimulate a response that fights inflammation, which can reduce pain and minimize damage to tissues. How do these receptors work? Cannabinoids help coordinate and regulate how we feel and think by binding with the endocannabinoid system’s CB1 and CB2 receptors. Fitting like puzzle pieces, cannabinoids are designed to link together with the cannabinoid receptors. Linking activates the receiving neuron into action, triggering a set of events to pass along the message and carry out a variety of cellular responses needed for homeostasis and healthy functioning. CBD may be a good alternative treatment for neuropathy pain. CBD may have the ability to lower pain which is linked to its potent effect as an antioxidant and ability to lower inflammation significantly, and quickly. CBD and neuropathy treatment go hand in hand. In fact, when put head to head against the other well-known antioxidants alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E) and ascorbate (Vitamin C), cannabidiol beat out both of them in effectiveness with regards to lowering glutamate toxicity in neurons.

[PubMed] Cannabinoids have been well-studied as a target for treatment of neuropathic pain in the medical literature. According to some researchers, they hold the most potential as a natural solution since nearly all pharmaceutical treatments fall short and have caused researchers to conclude that pharma “treatment options for neuropathic pain have limited efficacy and use is fraught with dose dependent adverse effects.” 2. Fine P, Rosenfeld M. Cannabinoids for neuropathic pain. Curr Pain Headache Rep. 2014;18(10):451. [PubMed] Due to this extreme shortcoming of Western medicine treatment for neuropathy, many neuropathy patients are understandably curious about cannabis, namely cannabidiol, as a potential option for pain management. Nature provides us with many healing plant compounds that don’t have adverse side effects, and many people are starting to wake up to that fact. Relief From Chronic Pain Is Here: CBD and NeuropathyChronic pain has become an epidemic, especially as the Boomer generation approaches old age. In Europe, chronic pain effects 1 in 4 elderly people. 3. Frondini C, Lanfranchi G, Minardi M, Cucinotta D. To this point, the available medications for attempting to treat this pain are limited to anti-steroidals, opiates, and anti-depressants – all hardcore drugs with harsh side effects of their own, and limited effectiveness. It’s almost as though the patient is trading a half-cure for being put on even more drugs to deal with the debilitating side effects. What Causes Neuropathy? It’s probably pertinent to give a quick background with regards to exactly what is neuropathy. I find that it always helps to understand the underlying causes of health issues if you have any intention to solve the problem and not just put a bandaid on it. Peripheral neuropathy has many causes. At its core, it is nerve damage due to chronic inflammation in the body. I’ve discussed inflammation at length here on the blog already, but essentially what it is is your body’s natural warning response that is triggered due to behaviors and incoming stimuli that threaten your health, put simply. Most people ignore this inflammation and develop chronic health issues over years of abusive habits. It is only after the diseases and health problems arise and becoming nagging that they seek a solution. Neuropathy symptoms can arise due to inflammation related to:
Cannabidiol, CBD May Aid In Calming Neuropathic Inflammation “The non-psychoactive compound, cannabidiol, or CBD, is the only component present at a high level in the extract able to bind to this receptor: thus cannabidiol was the compound responsible for the antinociceptive behaviour observed. CBD Looks Promising As A Neuropathy Treatment In conclusion, CBD oil is looking really promising for neuropathy patients and I’d say it’s definitely worth a shot, especially if you’ve been using opiates, NSAIDs, or antidepressants to try and control your neuropathy to no avail. High levels of cortisol and low levels of dopamine are at the root of many ADD/ADHD symptoms. Use of CBD can reduce levels of cortisol and increase levels of dopamine in the brain, thereby reducing symptoms of ADD/ADHD and enhancing focus, clarity, and concentration. George Washington, the nation’s first President, famously grew Indian hemp, a term loosely given to forms of cannabis, on all five of his farms: Mansion House, River Farm, Dogue Run Farm, Muddy Hole Farm, and Union Farm. In a time of widespread travel by sea, the fibers from commercial hemp could be used for cordage and textile to make ropes and sails for the many ships of the time, making hemp a valuable cash crop for colonists and later the citizens of a newly formed United States.
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison have both been tied to smoking Indian hemp. The latter noting that it gave him the creativity to create his drafts of the American Constitution, while Thomas Jefferson is tied to the quote, “Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth and protection of the country.” CBD and Inflammation: The Anti-Inflammatory Benefits Of Hemp Oil In this post I’m going to outline the collective body of current research on CBD and Hemp Extract with relation to Inflammation. There is a decent amount of research to this point, all indicating pretty impressive benefits for inflammation, typically looking at inflammation biomarkers (indicators) and positive improvements when subjects use CBD or Hemp Extract over the control groups. CBD inflammation treatment is becoming increasingly more common as awareness around cannabis increases. What Is Inflammation? Before we dive into the research around CBD and Hemp and Inflammation, I think it’s appropriate to actually define what inflammation truly is. Armed with this basic understanding, you’ll more firmly grasp the results of the studies I’m going to present to you today. Inflammation is a bodily response to harmful stimulus- Many things can cause this response in your body, which is why inflammation is more of what I would consider a “warning sign” rather than a disease itself. Like I mentioned earlier, because it is a warning sign it typically correlates with many different diseases in humans. The major easy-to-spot signs that you have inflammation issues are: pain, swelling, soreness, fatigue, itchy skin, redness, heat, and even gut issues like Ulcerative Colitis, IBS, and diarrhea. Inflammation is basically a generic response to a threat to your health. Your body activates your immune system as you try to fight off the “attacker.” Unfortunately for most people, their habits are what causes the inflammation in the first place. They are attacking themselves! Bad habits like poor diet, micronutrient deficiencies, excess stress, and constant exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals like those found in plastics, smog in the air, and even many foods, are constantly bombarding our bodies every single day, and unless you are aware of them, you’re essentially just reinforcing their attack on your body. It’s no wonder inflammation is such a common thing these days, and autoimmune diseases are increasing in number every single year. We are quite literally enabling this to happen to ourselves. And unless we wake up to this reality, it will continue to happen. Cannabidiol As An Emergent Inflammation Therapy:
Inflammation has traditionally been a tricky nail to hammer for researchers when it comes to finding a therapeutic solution. The most promising area of study has involved the endocannabinoid system, namely CB1 and CB2 receptor activation which are G-protein-coupled receptor sites and the ligands that activate them. How CBD Oil Works....Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid extracted from the hemp plant. CBD oil works by reacting with the body’s cannabinoid receptors. These cannabinoid receptors make up the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for keeping the body in homeostasis. The effects of CBD are non-psychoactive and do not cause a high or intoxicating effect; instead, CBD can promote relaxation, a sense of calm, and general wellbeing.
The Best Way to Dispense CBD Oil, or application under the tongue, allows for the active ingredients of CBD oil to be directly absorbed through the mucous membrane in the mouth. There are many capillaries, or tiny blood vessels, under the tongue which transfer directly to the bloodstream. When absorbed under the tongue, CBD bypasses the digestive system and processing of the liver; therefore, the effects of CBD oil are not decreased by digestion. Sublingual application allows CBD to quickly enter the bloodstream and interact with the endocannabinoid system. |
